  Salt Lake City Climate

Salt Lake's daily sunshine, low humidity (normally 15% or less) and refreshing mountain breezes make outdoor recreation more comfortable throughout the year. Salt Lake City has four distinct seasons. The surrounding mountains are natural climate modifiers, The low humidity also makes for a dry, powdery snow that has been given the epithet "greatest snow on earth."

The weather in Salt Lake City is enjoyable. skies clear 34% of the time, partly cloudy 28% and cloudy 38% with an average annual rainfall of 15.7 inches, snowfall of 64 and average temperatures are 36.4 degrees F in the winter and 92.2 degrees in the summer.

  Salt Lake City History

The Salt Lake Valley was settled in 1847 by Mormon pioneers (members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) after an arduous trip by covered wagon through rough terrain. Brigham Young, their leader, spotted the valley and spoke the now famous words, "This is the place!" The area was a desert and barren, plagued with crickets.  Three years later, they founded the University of Deseret which is now known as the University of Utah and the Salt Lake City area blossomed under Young's leadership.
